Just to say that Rufus Wainwright, and his family, Martha, Anna, Kate etc. will be putting on a Christmas Show at the RAH on Dec. 9th. 2009. Tickets went on sale this morning. The link for tix is :

I was terribly sad to read that Kate McGarrigle, Rufus Wainwright's Mother died this morning.
She had been dianosed with cancer about 3 years ago, but seemed to make a good recovery. However, it recurred again a while before Christmas, and despite being very ill (which we did'nt realise at the time) she sang and played the piano with the rest of the family at the Royal Albert Hall in December.

I feel so sad for Rufus, Martha, and Kate's two sisters, Jane and Anna. Their lives will never be the same again.

Rest in Peace, Kate. Your memory will live on through your music, for us to appreciate and enjoy.

I too was very sorry to read that Diana. My sympathies are with Rufus & Martha on the sad loss of their beloved mother.

This is very sad news; she wasn't even that old, was she?

Kate was 63. Everyone is understandably very upset on the RW Board. Many of us had met and spoken to her. She was like Rufus, very friendly and informal. We'll miss seeing her on stage.

Yes, it was put up on the Board, Martin., but thanks so much for your offer.

I felt so sad when I read it. It is terrible for them all, but maybe especially for Rufus, who adored his Mother, and her absence will leave such a large hole in his life.
I am looking forward to seeing him in April, but somehow it does'nt seem so important now, in the light of this tragedy. I know that sounds weird, and I can't explain it any better.
