Post subject:  Doyle and the Fourfathers

"Discovered" this young Southampton band when they played a live session on Marc Riley's excellent show on BBC 6 Music (where else?) last month.

You can now download their mini-album (7 great songs) from amazon for a very reasonable £4.83 http://amzn.to/9xl6T5

I went to see them play a hometown gig last Friday evening and was then told by the band that they'd got a last minute invitation to play the "post-protest gig" at the 229 Club after the 'Save 6 Music' protest outside Broadcasting House on Saturday lunchtime.

On arriving at the gig we were surprised (and at least a little worried on their behalf) to find that they were going to play AFTER the so-called headliners (The Magic Numbers) - running the obvious risk that many in the audience would depart before their set.

Some people did of course leave, but this was most definitely 'their loss' as Doyle and the Fourfathers played an absolutely storming (some have said "career defining") set which instantly seemed to convert pretty much everyone there into confirmed fans. Several people were certainly talking about this set possibly becoming an "I was there" moment.

Please check them out at http://www.myspace.com/doyleandthefourfathers

or http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=lf# ... ourfathers (where you can find a link to their "download extravaganza")

There's a video of (most of) one of the songs they played at the 6 Music gig here http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A ... Qc&h=05278

2010 is certainly turning into a 'vintage year' for me in terms of discovering new bands. First Race Horses and now Doyle and the Fourfathers!
